Past Chair Spotlight: Michael Higer, 2010-2011

I am married to Bobbie Higer for 40++ years. We have two children, Samantha and Adam who grew up at the BLS retreat at Naples and loved going every year. They have given us four grandchildren—three boys and one girl—who make us feel blessed every day.

What have you gained from your involvement with the Section?

My involvement in BLS led to me making life long friends and relationships with some of the smartest, most dedicated and passionate lawyers on the planet. These folks taught me how to be a better substantive lawyer and shared with me a commitment to serving our legal community and the public who are impacted by the our legal system.

Which Committees/Task Forces have you serve on within the Section?

I served as chair of the Business Litigation Committee and the Intellectual Property Law Committee. I chaired the committee that sought to and eventually did create business courts throughout Florida and helped to create the rules governing those courts.

What is your favorite memory from your term as Chair?

I know I should say something more substantive. But my favorite memory was being in Amsterdam at the Five Flies restaurant where we enjoyed one of the best meals ever with friends and colleagues and then was treated to a trip down memory lane with the owner who shared the notes and sketches of the many notables who had dined before us.

What is something that will surprise our members to learn about you?

I am an open book. No surprises.
