Bankruptcy/UCC Committee

Who We Are

The Bankruptcy/UCC Committee consists of lawyers and professionals who practice commercial law and specialize in the areas of receivership, bankruptcy, creditors rights, and secured transactions. Our mission is to provide a forum through which lawyers, professionals, and others seeking to become involved in receivership, bankruptcy, creditors rights, and secured transactions work may obtain education and enjoy networking opportunities. The Committee drafts and analyzes proposed legislation concerning the Uniform Commercial Code, as well as other legislation that affects the rights of secured creditors under state law, such as the statues governing receivership, foreclosure, assignment of rents, and exemptions. The Committee also studies the interplay between the federal Bankruptcy Code and state laws governing exemptions and creditors’ rights.

Annual CLE Program

The Committee offers educational programs and networking opportunities through meetings and panel presentations throughout the year, including The Michael G. Williamson View from the Florida Bankruptcy Bench. The View from the Bench is designed to foster communication, coordination, professionalism, and competence among insolvency and bankruptcy practitioners and judges. The View from the Bench invites and encourages participation of bankruptcy judges in the Northern, Middle, and Southern districts of Florida and all the divisions within those districts for an informal discussion of current caselaw by Florida’s bankruptcy judges. The program has been The Florida Bar’s most well-attended and most profitable seminar, with between 300 and 400 attorneys attending in person every year.
