The Business Law Section of The Florida Bar, organized in 1970, serves Florida lawyers, law students, and the faculty of its law schools. BLS members share a common interest in the laws affecting Florida's businesses, including corporate, contract, bankruptcy, franchise, antitrust, securities, and intellectual property law. The BLS serves an important role in shaping commercial law policy from commercial litigation to alternative dispute resolution.

The Business Law Section’s primary goals are as follows:

  • * Legislation. Actively participate in the State's legislative process by drafting, proposing, and advocating well-reasoned legislation that fairly treats all affected persons. Assure that Florida promptly adopts widely accepted uniform legislation such as the Uniform Commercial Code and Model Business Corporation Act, so that Florida participates on an equal footing with other states.
  • * Education. Present high quality CLE seminars that offer Florida's business lawyers an opportunity to learn about substantive developments and improve their professional skills.
  • * Collegiality and Mentoring. Provide a gathering place for Florida's most accomplished lawyers and a forum for its ambitious young lawyers and law students to learn, network and participate.

BLS hopes these efforts facilitate Florida's recognition as a state with fair and clear commercial laws, as well as a just and efficient system for resolving its businesses' legal disputes.
